A law firm seeks an experienced Employee Benefits and ERISA Partner to join its Washington, DC office. This role involves representing clients across all areas of employee benefits law, with an emphasis on developing and maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in benefit plan design, compliance, and fiduciary risk management, along with a focus on ERISA claims, dispute resolution, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Duties

  • Advise clients on the design and compliance of qualified retirement plans and health and welfare benefit plans.
  • Provide risk management counsel for plan sponsors and fiduciaries, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Draft, review, and manage benefit plan documentation in line with current regulations.
  • Represent clients in ERISA claims and disputes, resolving matters efficiently.
  • Manage governmental investigations and audits with an understanding of regulatory expectations.
  • Oversee Affordable Care Act compliance and advise on related healthcare regulations.
  • Foster client relationships to ensure high-quality service and retention.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience practicing employee benefits and ERISA law, with the ability to work independently in these areas.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing complex employee benefits and ERISA matters, with a focus on client satisfaction.
  • Portable and expanding book of business is highly preferred for this role.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Bar of the jurisdiction where the attorney will practice.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of ERISA, qualified retirement plans, fiduciary compliance, and healthcare law.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, with a focus on client development.
  • Ability to manage complex regulatory compliance and dispute resolution matters effectively.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail in legal documentation and client interaction.
  • Proven ability to independently handle a robust caseload within employee benefits law.
