A law firm in New York City is seeking a Patent Attorney with 2-4 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field, and will be adept at drafting and prosecuting patent applications. This role requires registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and, if appropriate, a license to practice law in their respective state.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Conduct thorough patent searches and due diligence to support patent prosecution.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and other communications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Advise clients on patentability, patent prosecution strategies, and infringement issues.
  • Collaborate with inventors and technical experts to gather necessary information for patent applications.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios for strategic planning and risk assessment.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of patent applications, communications, and deadlines.
  • Manage multiple patent prosecution assignments and meet internal and client-driven deadlines.
  • Provide support in intellectual property litigation and enforcement matters, as needed.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and related technical fields.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the respective state.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments from various partners and clients.
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.
  • Capability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • If applicable, state bar admission.
