Finance Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm located in Washington, DC is actively seeking a junior-level legal practitioner with specialized experience in structured financial transactions. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with a strong foundation in commercial lending who thrives in a collaborative environment and seeks mentorship in a nationally recognized finance practice.

Duties:

  • Support a legal team handling sophisticated financial arrangements, particularly those connected to commercial and asset-backed lending

  • Assist with documentation, negotiation, and closing of financing agreements including credit facilities, collateral packages, and legal opinion letters

  • Participate in transactions involving leveraged buyouts, private equity-backed deals, and mergers & acquisitions

  • Collaborate with borrowers, lenders, and internal teams to ensure the seamless execution of transactional matters

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of legal strategies and assist senior attorneys with complex deal structuring

  • Engage in legal research and draft transaction-related documentation with a high degree of autonomy

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of direct experience in commercial finance or structured lending within a law firm recognized for complex transactional work

  • Solid understanding of market-standard finance documents and deal mechanics

  • Capacity to manage multiple deadlines and transactional workflows in a fast-paced setting

  • Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills

  • Must be a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Strong academic performance preferred

Certifications:

  • Active admission to the District of Columbia Bar

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication abilities

  • Ability to work well in cross-functional legal teams and demonstrate initiative

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Experience with borrower-side transactions is preferred; lender-side experience is also valued

  • Comfort with evolving responsibilities and professional development through mentorship
