Job Overview

A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Litigation Department as Special Counsel, focusing on complex construction litigation. The position is open in the firm’s Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, or Tampa offices. The ideal candidate will have at least six years of experience in construction litigation, specifically with multi-party construction defect matters. This non-partner track role offers the opportunity to work independently on high-profile cases and collaborate with a skilled team in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

  • Handle multi-party construction defect litigation cases, from inception to resolution
  • Conduct discovery, including depositions, and draft substantive dispositive motions
  • Represent clients in court, arbitration, and evidentiary hearings
  • Provide legal advice on insurance risk transfer issues related to property damage claims
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients on case strategy and development
  • Manage and prioritize multiple complex cases simultaneously
  • Draft and review legal documents, including motions, briefs, and client communications
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring effective communication and case updates

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in construction litigation
  • Significant experience with courtroom or arbitration proceedings
  • Experience with discovery, deposition practice, and drafting dispositive motions
  • At least some trial or evidentiary hearing experience
  • Baseline knowledge of insurance risk transfer issues for property damage claims
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with limited supervision

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active member in good standing with the Florida Bar
  • Board Certification in Construction Law by the Florida Bar (preferred)

Skills

  • Strong oral advocacy skills with significant courtroom or arbitration experience
  • Excellent legal research and writing capabilities
  • Proficient in managing complex litigation cases
  • Ability to draft persuasive legal documents, including motions and discovery requests
  • Familiarity with insurance risk transfer issues and property damage claims
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
