A law firm in Portland, OR is seeking an accomplished Partner-level Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in environmental law, particularly in complex litigation, and demonstrate exceptional leadership and management skills. This role requires the ability to lead teams, manage client relationships, and deliver superior legal services. The successful candidate will be adept at both decisive and collaborative approaches, with a strong focus on effective communication, strategic litigation, and client advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants, as well as consulting and testifying experts.
  • Manage client relationships and interact directly with clients to address their legal needs and concerns.
  • Produce high-quality written legal documents, including client memoranda, arbitration and mediation briefs, motions, and appellate briefs.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal presentation skills in various contexts, including federal and state courts and national conferences.
  • Conduct efficient, creative, and effective legal research, with a focus on environmental law, civil procedure, administrative law, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exercise superior judgment and maintain high ethical standards in all professional activities.
  • Develop and execute case strategies, prepare pleadings, and handle motions practice, briefing, and oral arguments.
  • Oversee document discovery, review, management, and production, including large-scale electronic discovery.
  • Take and defend fact, expert, and document depositions, and hire and direct expert witnesses in diverse fields.
  • Evaluate and apply technical research and data to legal arguments and negotiate settlements.
  • Participate in mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Bar in the state of Oregon.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental law, with a focus on complex litigation.
  • 8+ years of experience with federal and state court litigation, administrative hearings, and other legal proceedings.
  • Demonstrated experience as first-chair in bench trials involving at least $1 million at issue.
  • Proven track record in setting and executing case strategies, preparing pleadings, and handling motions practice.
  • Experience with large-scale document discovery, expert witness management, and negotiating settlements.
  • A portable book of business is highly preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Bar in Oregon.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
