A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking a Data Privacy Attorney with extensive experience to ensure the firm’s compliance with data privacy laws across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Office of the General Counsel, Security & Risk Management, and Audit & Advisory departments. This role involves collaborating with the Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) to manage data privacy projects, review vendor contracts, and handle privacy impact assessments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel, Security & Risk Management, and Audit & Advisory departments to ensure compliance with data privacy laws in the United States, European Union, Asia, and the Middle East.
  • Work with the firm’s Procurement function and Security Review Team to review, draft, and negotiate vendor contracts and other commercial relationships involving the transfer of personal data.
  • Partner with the GDPO and key internal stakeholders to review projects involving personal data collection or utilization, advising on privacy risks and compliance with local data privacy laws.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments as needed and respond to requests from individuals exercising their rights under applicable data privacy laws, including requests to access or delete personal data.
  • Implement measures to demonstrate compliance with data privacy laws, including managing and updating records of processing activities, assisting with data mapping, and conducting vendor management reviews.
  • Review and update transparency notices, privacy policies, and procedures globally; coordinate and assist with data privacy audits of the firm’s offices worldwide.
  • Maintain the firm’s Binding Corporate Rules, supporting their ongoing review and management across the firm.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills and effectively interact with all organizational levels.
  • Utilize strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks, and anticipate obstacles.
  • Use initiative to drive improvements in the firm’s compliance posture.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in data privacy law.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience advising on European Union data privacy law is highly preferred.
  • Active Bar admission and good standing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar admission and good standing.
  • Certifications in data privacy or information governance (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E) are a plus.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of global data privacy laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to review and negotiate complex contracts involving personal data.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
