Job Overview:

A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Tech Transactions and Data Privacy (Incident Response) Associate Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have significant litigation experience and a deep understanding of privacy laws. This role involves immediate client interaction, sophisticated legal matters, and a combination of privacy litigation and incident response work. The attorney will be expected to provide practical legal advice to clients, manage complex case work-ups, and be actively involved in trial preparation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of case work-up and trial preparation, including discovery, motions, and trial strategy.
  • Handle privacy litigation matters with a focus on compliance with federal, state, and international privacy laws.
  • Conduct legal research and draft high-quality legal documents, including briefs, complaints, pretrial motions, memoranda, and discovery requests.
  • Advise clients on data privacy incidents and help them navigate regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to deliver practical legal advice on data privacy, incident response, and related matters.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, negotiations, and other legal forums, ensuring a well-prepared and strategic approach to litigation.
  • Stay current with developments in privacy laws and regulations, particularly those related to technology transactions and data security.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Illinois State Bar (or the ability to become admitted in Illinois).
  • Strong academic credentials, preferably from a top-tier law school.

Experience and Skills:

  • Privacy litigation experience preferred, with the ability to handle sophisticated legal matters independently.
  • Significant litigation experience, including managing all elements of case work-up and trial preparation.
  • Substantial legal research and writing skills, with demonstrated experience drafting briefs, complaints, pretrial motions, memoranda, and discovery requests.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and international privacy laws, with the ability to advise on data privacy and incident response.
  • Experience working in a law firm or a similar professional environment.
  • Superior communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, real-world legal advice to clients on complex legal issues.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple cases and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in privacy litigation, privacy compliance, or data breach response.
  • Familiarity with technology transactions, data security laws, and industry best practices in privacy.
  • Experience in client management and ability to work on sophisticated matters with minimal supervision.
