Job Title: Energy Associate Attorney

Job Location: Albany, NY 

Job Overview: A prominent law firm is currently seeking an Energy Associate Attorney to join its growing Energy Industry Team. This role involves working closely with corporate and individual clients across various energy sectors, including electric generation, battery storage, transmission, utilities, and more. The ideal candidate will contribute to regulatory matters, project development, siting, compliance, and dispute resolution, gaining experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies.
  • Develop pre-application strategies, draft and file application documents, and manage permitting for projects before various regulatory bodies.
  • Research federal and state statutes, agency regulations, and orders affecting regulated industries, and prepare summary memoranda.
  • Draft administrative petitions, responses, comments to administrative agencies, complaints, discovery demands, and memoranda of law.
  • Participate in civil and administrative enforcement proceedings and litigation related to energy regulations.

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years of regulatory and/or litigation experience; energy experience preferred but not required.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of client personalities and team members.
  • Military experience is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school is required.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to waive in).

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
