Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and develop the firm’s Bankruptcy practice, providing expert legal counsel on complex bankruptcy matters, including Chapter 11 reorganizations, creditor rights, and restructuring.
  • Manage a client portfolio generating a minimum of $600,000 annually in portable business, while actively working to expand client relationships and business development opportunities.
  • Represent clients, including creditors, debtors, and other stakeholders, in bankruptcy litigation, restructuring proceedings, and insolvency-related disputes.
  • Advise businesses and financial institutions on bankruptcy strategies, risk management, and potential litigation stemming from insolvency issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide multi-faceted legal services, integrating insolvency matters with finance, litigation, and corporate restructuring.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, overseeing their development and ensuring high-quality legal services are provided to the firm’s clients.
  • Participate in firm-wide business development efforts, utilizing personal networks and attending industry events to attract new clients to the Bankruptcy practice.
  • Contribute to the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect across the legal team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in bankruptcy and restructuring law, with a proven ability to handle complex bankruptcy cases, creditor rights disputes, and reorganizations.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, with a portable book of business generating at least $600,000 annually.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring legal teams in bankruptcy-related matters.
  • In-depth knowledge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, insolvency proceedings, and corporate restructuring strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise and represent clients at all stages of bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a collaborative team environment, while also driving individual business growth.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility for reciprocity).
  • Certification in bankruptcy law or restructuring is an advantage but not required.
