Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to support its creditors' rights practice. The role is based in Michigan and involves representing secured creditors and servicers in multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Attorney for Collections and contribute to the team by providing legal expertise, overseeing staff, reviewing legal documents, and ensuring compliance with firm policies and relevant legal standards.

Duties:

  • Subject Matter Expertise:

    • Develop and share knowledge related to creditors' rights across assigned jurisdictions.
    • Continuously stay informed about legal issues in applicable practice areas.
    • Research unfamiliar legal concepts and collaborate with senior attorneys to ensure compliance and consistency.
    • Provide sound legal advice and respond to escalations or inquiries effectively.
  • Document Review:

    • Review legal documents for accuracy, quality, and compliance with jurisdictional and client requirements.
    • Ensure all documents meet legal and contractual expectations.
    • Prioritize and manage daily tasks to meet deadlines.
    • Escalate complex issues to senior attorneys when necessary.
  • Team Oversight:

    • Collaborate with and provide oversight to non-attorney staff regarding legal processes and document preparation.
    • Offer legal guidance to ensure staff actions comply with ethical standards and client objectives.
    • Escalate legal issues to senior attorneys as required.
  • File Management:

    • Monitor file progression and develop strategies to address delays or obstacles.
    • Provide clear instructions on individual files while balancing the broader needs of the firm and clients.
    • Regularly review aged files and strategize ways to meet client goals.
  • Client Interaction:

    • Participate in client discussions and workgroups as needed.
    • Ensure that client expectations regarding file timelines and objectives are met.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the relevant state bar and in "Good Standing."

Education:

  • Law degree (Juris Doctor) from an accredited institution.
  • Admission to the relevant bar association.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar admission in the required jurisdiction.
  • "Good Standing" certification with the Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent document review and compliance abilities.
  • Effective communicator with both clients and internal staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in legal principles related to creditors' rights and collections.
