Job Overview:

A leading litigation and personal injury law firm in New York, NY is seeking a full-time Civil Rights Associate Attorney with experience in civil and human rights litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in state and federal civil litigation, representing plaintiffs in cases involving police misconduct, discrimination, constitutional law, and other civil rights violations. The attorney will handle all phases of litigation, including court appearances, depositions, and trials, with a commitment to advancing social justice and civil rights.

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Represent plaintiffs in civil rights cases, including police misconduct, excessive force, wrongful conviction, and prisoner rights
  • Litigate cases in both state and federal court
  • Handle a variety of civil rights issues such as discrimination, human trafficking, denial of medical care, sexual assault claims, and civil rights class actions
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, and prepare legal documents
  • Attend court appearances, oral arguments, depositions, and trials
  • Negotiate settlements and manage cases through all stages of litigation
  • Collaborate with clients to provide guidance and support throughout the legal process

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in civil litigation within state and federal court systems
  • Background in civil and human rights law, constitutional law, municipal law, criminal law, labor and employment law, and related areas
  • Proven ability to handle cases involving police misconduct, prisoner rights, and human trafficking
  • Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and trial skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to civil rights and social justice
  • Willingness to appear in court and handle oral arguments, depositions, and trials

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active U.S. Bar license (New York preferred)
