A law firm seeks an experienced Condominium & Homeowner Association Associate Attorney to join its Litigation Group in Chicago, Illinois. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of experience representing common-interest community associations, including condominium and homeowner associations, and their directors and officers. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled attorney to handle a variety of complex legal matters in a collaborative, dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Represent condominium and homeowner associations in various legal matters, including disputes between owners and boards of directors
  • Defend claims involving professional negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, discrimination and harassment, breach of contract, negligence, and other torts
  • Negotiate and facilitate resolutions to disputes within community associations
  • Review and interpret governing documents, including Declarations, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations for community associations
  • Advise clients on compliance with Illinois statutes related to condominium and homeowner associations
  • Manage complex cases, ensuring successful outcomes and maintaining strong client relationships

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience representing directors and officers of Not-For-Profit Corporations, with a focus on Condominium and Homeowner Associations
  • Experience defending professional negligence, fiduciary duty breaches, discrimination and harassment claims, breach of contract, and general negligence
  • Familiarity with community association governing documents and Illinois statutes about them
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience resolving disputes between owners and boards of directors
  • Must be admitted to the Illinois State Bar and in good standing

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active Illinois Bar membership in good standing

  • Expertise in condominium and homeowner association law, particularly dispute resolution and governance
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex legal matters independently
  • Client-focused, with the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
