Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a Senior International Trade Attorney with at least 10 years of experience in corporate transactions and a focus on international trade law. This role involves advising clients on complex trade compliance issues, handling transactions involving controlled technologies, and representing clients in regulatory matters related to U.S. trade laws. The position offers an opportunity to work on high-profile international trade cases, providing cutting-edge counsel in a dynamic and expanding practice area.

Location:

  • South Haven, MI

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. import and export regulations, tariff classifications, customs valuations, and compliance with international trade laws.
  • Provide guidance on free trade agreements, tariff preference programs, trade remedies, and other regulatory matters.
  • Manage corporate transactions involving controlled technologies and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to support client transactions and regulatory matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to international trade.
  • Represent clients in regulatory applications, including obtaining necessary licenses and approvals.
  • Keep current with changes in trade laws and advise clients on emerging regulatory challenges.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate transactions with a specialization in international trade law.
  • Proven proficiency in trade preference programs and trade remedy applications (e.g., USMCA, AD/CVD, Section 301).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. trade regulations, including customs compliance and export controls.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Michigan or Washington, D.C.

Skills:

  • Expertise in international trade regulations, including the ability to navigate complex legal requirements.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex legal issues to clients.
  • Organizational and project management skills for handling multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
  • Familiarity with regulations such as ITAR, EAR, CFIUS, and OFAC Sanctions Programs is a plus.
