An esteemed law firm in Chicago, IL is currently hiring an Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its legal team. Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and provide strategic legal solutions to clients
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a caseload of immigration matters
  • Conduct intakes with detained individuals at centers
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions
  • Review and adjust immigration applications and packets
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes in immigration law
  • Meet with potential clients for consultations to develop immigration strategies
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony
  • Provide legal analysis to identify potential benefits in clients' cases
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration matters

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience in immigration law
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian relief, EOIR, Detained cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications
  • Experience with case management software preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the bar (Illinois bar or eligible to waive into Illinois bar preferred)

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in Illinois or eligibility to waive in

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Time management skills to handle a busy caseload
