Job Overview
A reputable law firm is currently seeking a Defense Litigation Associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team with a focus on asbestos litigation. The successful candidate will represent asbestos defendants in various industries across state and federal courts nationwide. This position will involve collaborating with colleagues in multiple offices to develop and execute defense strategies for clients.

Location

  • Hartford, CT

Duties

  • Regularly take and defend depositions.
  • Research legal issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Manage cases from initiation through resolution, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft legal documents, including memoranda, pleadings, and motions.
  • Represent clients in courtroom appearances.
  • Coordinate with co-counsel in various jurisdictions to support defense efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters; experience in asbestos defense preferred.
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
  • Proficient in Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight as needed.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Quick learner with the ability to absorb and process new information.
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
