Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Lake Success, NY, is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its dynamic Mental Health, Guardianship, and Elder Law team. The firm is recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality legal services with a focus on advocacy for clients facing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, and addiction issues. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in mental health litigation, including knowledge of mental hygiene law, guardianship proceedings, and family court matters.

Duties:

  • Manage and lead legal cases involving mental health, guardianship, and elder law issues.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategies.
  • Represent clients in court, including making appearances in multiple legal venues (remotely or in person).
  • Engage with clients to understand their legal needs, providing compassionate and knowledgeable advice.
  • Collaborate with a team of attorneys and support staff to handle complex cases efficiently.
  • Stay current with relevant laws, statutes, and regulations related to mental health and guardianship.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience in mental health, guardianship, and elder law or related legal areas.
  • Expertise in Mental Hygiene Law (Articles 81 and 9) and familiarity with Family Court procedures.
  • Experience in litigation, including preparing for and appearing at hearings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact persuasively with clients, court staff, and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York State.
