Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to join its Ohio-based defense team. This position is ideal for a candidate with at least 10 years of experience in workers' compensation defense, particularly in Ohio. The role offers the opportunity to represent employers in complex workers' compensation matters, including administrative hearings, mediations, and litigation. The attorney will play a key role in reducing clients' liabilities and obligations while providing strategic legal counsel.

Location:

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel on workers' compensation matters
  • Represent employers in workers' compensation claims, including administrative hearings, depositions, mediations, and court proceedings as necessary
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce employers' obligations and liabilities
  • Assist employers with obtaining and maintaining self-insured status
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, written discovery, motions, and other legal documents in support of defense strategies
  • Stay up to date with legal trends, regulations, and case law related to workers' compensation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts in state agencies such as the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Ohio
  • Strong understanding of Ohio workers' compensation laws and regulations
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience handling Ohio workers' compensation defense matters
  • Proven ability to reduce obligations and liabilities for employers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage an assigned caseload independently and collaborate within a team
  • Established network of contacts within the Ohio workers' compensation community

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Ohio Bar

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in Ohio
