A law firm seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join their team in Chicago, Illinois. This opportunity is ideal for a recent law school graduate or an attorney with up to three years of immigration law experience who is eager to advance in the field. You will be responsible for handling a variety of cases, assisting clients, and collaborating with a team of legal experts.

Duties:

  • Provide clear and concise legal advice on immigration issues, explaining complex immigration concepts and devising strategic solutions.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings, including both detained and non-detained individuals, before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Handle a diverse caseload and ensure the timely progression of all cases.
  • Conduct intakes and interviews with detained individuals at detention centers to assess their legal options.
  • Draft and file immigration petitions, including family-based petitions, removal defense, and other immigration applications.
  • Review and refine immigration applications and documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Work alongside law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations to stay current on immigration law developments.
  • Meet with potential clients to conduct consultations and assess their immigration needs.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and USCIS interviews.
  • Prepare legal briefs, motions, and other necessary documents for immigration-related cases.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience in immigration law, ideally including removal defense, family-based petitions, and USCIS applications.
  • Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong team player who is open to collaboration and supporting colleagues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Experience with case management software is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Illinois or eligibility to practice law in Illinois.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of immigration law, including removal defense, family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and USCIS applications.
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities, with experience preparing legal briefs and motions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with case management software and legal technology tools.
