Job Location: Houston, TX

Job Overview:
A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking a Patent Engineer to support its growing intellectual property practice. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications across a variety of technical fields, including chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications within assigned technical areas
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to draft and file patent applications
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze patentability
  • Respond to office actions and coordinate with patent examiners to move applications through the patenting process
  • Review and assess patent portfolios for clients
  • Provide technical analysis and support in patent litigation matters
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and protect innovative technologies

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in patent engineering, preferably within a law firm or corporate setting
  • Strong technical background in one or more of the following fields: chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or software engineering
  • Experience in patent preparation and prosecution, including prior art searches and analysis
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Patent application drafting and prosecution
  • Technical analysis and research
  • Strong knowledge of patent laws and procedures
  • Proficiency in using patent databases and search tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written communication and legal drafting skills
