A law firm seeks an experienced ESG & Sustainable Finance Associate to join a dynamic and growing team in New York City. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an attorney with a strong background in advising on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and sustainable finance. The ideal candidate will have 6 to 8 years of experience working with private equity firms, corporations, and financial institutions on complex legal matters related to ESG regulations, climate-related compliance, and sustainable finance transactions.

Duties:

  • Advise clients, including private equity firms, corporations, project sponsors, and lenders, on legal matters concerning ESG and sustainable finance.
  • Provide strategic guidance on climate-related regulatory requirements and evolving environmental laws.
  • Assist clients in navigating investor demands and integrating ESG factors into business strategies and transactions.
  • Counsel clients on voluntary ESG reporting frameworks and sustainability goals.
  • Manage a diverse range of ESG and finance-related legal projects, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Handle complex transaction strategies related to sustainable finance and ESG investments.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to provide high-level client service in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • 6 to 8 years of experience in ESG, sustainable finance, or related legal fields.
  • Proven experience advising on complex ESG regulations, climate-related issues, and sustainable finance transactions.
  • Strong achievement-driven approach with a history of managing client relationships and driving successful outcomes.
  • Exceptional academic credentials and law firm experience.
  • Ability to handle a broad range of work and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proven success in providing strategic legal counsel to clients, with a focus on the evolving ESG landscape.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic performance throughout law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of ESG regulations, sustainable finance, and climate-related legal frameworks.
  • Strong client management skills and the ability to provide strategic, actionable legal advice.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for effective client interaction and internal collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal concepts and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative, growing team.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
