Job Title: Estate Planning Attorney (Hybrid)

Job Location: San Diego, CA

Job Overview:

A reputable law firm located in San Diego is seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join their Trusts & Estates practice group. This is a hybrid role that allows flexibility in terms of remote work, but it is essential to be based in or near the San Diego area. The ideal candidate will bring at least 8 years of focused experience in estate planning, trust administration, and estate tax matters, with a deep understanding of California law. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a collaborative team environment and handle complex and high-net-worth client matters.

Duties:

  • Drafting and preparing estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, and related documents.
  • Administering trusts and estates, including probate processes and managing estate and trust distributions.
  • Providing tax planning advice related to estate, gift, and income taxes.
  • Preparing and reviewing complex estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and trust income tax returns.
  • Collaborating with a team of attorneys and paralegals on complex estate planning and trust administration matters.
  • Maintaining a high level of client interaction and providing excellent service to high-net-worth clients.
  • Conducting legal research, particularly in estate and gift tax issues, and staying updated on relevant changes in California law.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in California estate planning and trust administration.
  • Strong technical expertise in drafting estate planning documents and managing complex estate matters.
  • Familiarity with estate and gift tax law, as well as the preparation of related tax returns.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment with both attorneys and paralegals.
  • Proven track record of working with high-net-worth individuals and providing exceptional client service.
  • High level of initiative, attention to detail, and organization.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • An LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning is preferred but not required if relevant experience is demonstrated.

Certifications:

  • Active membership with the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities, particularly related to tax and estate planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of estate and trust laws, including the nuances of California state regulations.
  • Ability to manage complex client relationships and high-value estates.
  • High attention to detail, with a proactive approach to handling matters and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with clients, attorneys, and staff.
