Duties:

  • Represent clients in tax litigation cases in the Federal Court of Claims, Tax Court, or U.S. District Court.
  • Handle refund suits against the federal government, advocating on behalf of taxpayers.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and prepare legal arguments for litigation matters.
  • Manage client relationships, providing strategic counsel and guidance throughout the litigation process.
  • Work closely with a team of attorneys to develop case strategies and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Engage in negotiations with tax authorities to resolve disputes efficiently.
  • Stay informed on changes in tax law and legal precedents impacting client cases.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tax litigation, particularly in federal tax dispute cases.
  • Experience handling refund suits or trial cases involving tax matters is highly desirable.
  • Former experience with the Department of Justice – Tax Division or IRS Office of Chief Counsel is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining a high level of client service.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar license in any U.S. jurisdiction; California licensure is a plus.
