A law firm is seeking an experienced Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Agent with a solid technical foundation in the biological sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations. The position requires a high level of client interaction, so strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential. The ideal candidate will be client-focused and committed to providing top-tier service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to biotechnology innovations.
  • Provide strategic patent portfolio management and development advice to clients.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and due diligence analyses for client transactions, including acquisitions and licensing deals.
  • Prepare responses to office actions and handle patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Collaborate with partners and other team members to develop robust patent strategies that align with clients' business goals.
  • Conduct IP due diligence, including infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate evaluations.
  • Stay up-to-date with patent law developments, particularly those relevant to biotechnology and life sciences, to provide informed advice to clients.
  • Assist with opposition and appeal proceedings when necessary.
  • Foster strong client relationships through direct engagement and high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations, preferably in a law firm environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth technical knowledge of biological sciences with the ability to understand and explain complex scientific information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor junior team members.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and analytical thinking.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients and maintaining long-term professional relationships.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, client-focused patent services.

  • Experience in a law firm or a legal setting with exposure to intellectual property law is preferred.
