Spencer Fane Expands Real Estate Practice in San Jose with Two New Partners
Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce accomplished Partners David W. Brown and Matthew P. James have joined the Real Estate practice group in the firm’s San Jose office.
David represents a wide range of software, biotech, and other technology clients in matters involving leases, purchase and sale contracts, and construction contracts for commercial properties, including office, research and development, industrial, and retail spaces. He also has vast experience in wireless facilities and communication site agreements. To secure the most favorable outcomes for his clients, David skillfully analyzes potential risks and negotiates complex primary and collateral leasing documents, focusing on protecting clients’ rights for the duration of the agreement while limiting liability in both the short- and long-term.
With a diverse clientele that includes property owners, tenants, contractors, engineers, and material suppliers, Matt’s business litigation practice focuses on construction and real estate matters. With nearly 24 years of experience litigating these types of cases through judgment, Matt uses his experience to provide practical and strategic advice to his clients at all phases of construction and real estate disputes.

David received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and earned his Juris Doctor cum laude at the University of San Francisco. After attending the University of California, Berkeley, for his undergraduate degree, Matt earned his Juris Doctor at Santa Clara University School of Law.
In addition to their prolific practices, David is an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University and both he and Matt volunteer their time at local and regional legal, business, and community organizations, helping Spencer Fane deepen its impact in California.
