"Don't online job search engines screen candidates using algorithms? In my cover letter I have been adding bullet points from the posted job description and requirements that overlap with my experience, Is that thinking crap?"
No. There's still a human reviewing all the resumes. I don't think you need to do all this stuff to make your resume stick out. Just imagine if you were like a Stanford law graduate practicing in a major law firm, you wouldn't put a bunch of bullet points at the top of your resume, you would be confident that someone would look at it, and trying to make yourself attractive to computers is just not a good idea.
I do think this thinking is incorrect. I don't think it's necessary, I think that they'll look at your experience, and so forth. You're welcome to put together in your resume, like a transaction or representative matter sheet, and have that there as a second or third page. And that can, if you feel like that's necessary, I do know that when I'm looking for resumes in our database, many times I will do keyword searches and things like that and that's how I find that information. But other than that, I don't think there's really much you need to worry about.
