"Elite litigation boutiques often recruit associates by promising a better chance of making partner. But how does partnership at these boutiques actually stack up to partnership at a large Vault-ranked firm?
The answer is no, most elite litigation boutiques do not have the leverage or do not make as much money as larger terms because there's not as much leverage. And so because of that, you typically will not make as much money.
You will often be responsible for doing more things and all sorts of things. But sometimes they actually have lower cost structures and there is more opportunity and so forth. But it's just different to being a partner at a large law firm than it is at an elite litigation boutique. And you may be able to have a better chance of making partner. That's definitely true. But at the same time, those becoming a partner at an litigation boutique, may make it more difficult to attract larger clients many times, because larger clients typically when things are very serious, won't often use a boutique. Sometimes they will. Obviously they do a lot, but it can often be much easier to bring people into the larger firms than others.
