How Would A Judicial Law Clerk Lateral To A Big Law Firm
[00:00:00] Should a judicial law clerk in state court apply for lateral positions at a big law firm or should clerks seek experience at mid-size or small law firms or government before seeking to lateral to a big law firm?
I would recommend trying a large law firm first, if you can. That's what I would try to do. If you can't then that's fine, but I would try large law firms especially in the market where you're clerking. That's where you're going to have the most luck. Before going into the government, try to get a job in the largest law firm you can. After that, a mid-sized or smaller law firm.
The larger law firm you're with, it's going to determine the type of training you get. You're going to get better training. Another option that you would have if you're a judicial law clerk would be to apply for a federal judicial clerkship. And if you have a federal district clerkship, that would also make it much easier for you to lateral to a major law firm.
