Why Five Years Working in a Large Law Firm Should Make You Marketable
[00:00:00] How long do I need to work at a large law firm before one is marketable enough to move to a different big firm (top 20 firm) top law school.
It depends on the economy. Right now, I would say it's one year. Again, I try to tell people it's better to try to stick around for at least two to four or even five years at one firm. If you're not happy there and you're not doing the kind of work, you don't like the culture, you feel like you've got a bad brand and you can improve it by moving, then there's nothing wrong if you feel you can move to a better firm. Many times there's nothing wrong with moving.
But, you definitely need to be there. At least one or two years. If you start moving firms frequently, if you move in year one and year two and year three people are going to stop taking you seriously because they're going to believe that you're not going to stick.
