How Does Stability Make You Highly Marketable
[00:00:00] How marketable are you being general corporate associate at a small law firm for about 10 years and if you've never been at any other firm.
Wow, that's good, actually.
What would bigger firms think of this kind of profile?
Yeah, you're very marketable. Pretty much marketable most places.
You're going to be most marketable in markets without a lot of you. Which means, smaller markets and least marketable where there are more choices.
But, let me tell you, what's really good about your background. Some things that I really liked, so even with that said, you could probably get a job in any market and Including New York. Probably California, even without the bar. Just this particular point in time but definitely in smaller markets and definitely, all over wherever you're at.
But, what's exceptional about your background is that you've been at the same employer for 10 years. That's very rare in this market. You have a lot of stability and there's going to be a lot of employers that would be interested in you because of that stability. You're also in the right practice area. That's a very active practice here right now.
With very [00:01:00] limited exceptions, depending on your skillset, you could get into lots of different types of firms. The only drawback would be is if your experience is too general. You're not going to get a job probably as a securities attorney, if you haven't done securities or doing huge M&A and stuff.
They may drop you back a class year at some big firms and stuff, or several class years. But, this type of profile is very marketable. You may not be impressed with your law school, or you may be impressed with it. I don't know. Or you may not be impressed with your firm, but even if you're not, you should be in pretty good shape and could get a position at a lot of firms.
The only reason you wouldn't get a position at a major firm would be just because they have a lot more people to choose from, but right now, there's a need for a lot of people like you. I think you would be able to get a job without too much difficulty.
