Why You Should Start as a Grinder
[00:00:00] If my type does not align with the type of work I'm doing, meaning personality type, in my firm, how can I make changes to be doing the type of work that fits my type?
Okay. That's a good question.
When you're young, you need to be a grinder. You need to get, until you have at least probably 10,000 hours of experience. Then as you get older then you can branch out. A minder, binder or finder. And, the best way to do that is basically, if you're a finder, you have to start doing that on your own. If you're a binder, then you'll demonstrate that kind of naturally, and if you're a minder, you will as well.
And by the way, there are jobs for CLO type people inside of law firms that pay, $500,000 or more per year. These are big jobs, there's jobs for people in binder roles who work closely with the managing partner that pay millions per year, some larger law firms. But, you have to show an aptitude for those skills.
People have to pick up on that. When they're looking for people like that in a growing firm, you should stick out, but you can't really stick out until you've been a grinder for awhile. If you're a [00:01:00] grinder, that's very good. Meaning, you're bringing in a lot of business or you're doing very good work. Beyond that, people are gonna pick up on it. You just have to do what you do naturally. But if you're in a law firm and you're just expressing a lot of enthusiasm for minder type roles and binder type roles and doing that stuff naturally, people will pick up on it. You just need to find an environment where it's going to work for you.
