Why You Should Start Your Career in a Law Firm Rather Than an Accounting Firm
[00:00:00] As a tax lawyer, is it better to start my career in a law firm or in an accounting firm?
So for tax lawyers, it's very difficult to move from an accounting firm to a law firm. And people do it. I've certainly done it. But, if you can get a job from right away that's better off, the problem is it's very difficult,
You need to really do what you can to try to position in a law firm, as you can. Now, getting a job in an accounting firm is not something that will stop your career but it's definitely much easier to go from a law firm to an accounting firm than it is to go from an accounting firm to a law firm. The reason is also because accounting firms traditionally pay, much less than law firms.
Your brand isn't as strong if you start an accounting firm. But one thing I would say is if you're not trying to get to work a job in the most major law firms, the training you get an accounting firms, excellent. The tax attorneys inside of accounting firms are just as good as ones in law firms, if not better, because they're surrounded by a lot of other people doing it.
It tends to be a little bit of [00:01:00] prejudice against attorneys from working in accounting firms than there is the other way around.
