How do i know if my work in government is good enough for a top level law firm
[00:00:00] How do I notify law firms concerned over how it's picked up in the government? And more importantly, how do I know? If my habit, okay. So one of the things that I do is a good question in the fear. That I recommend this. So this person says to have good grades at a top law school, but they went right into the government after graduation.
Now their practice area is in demand and they're looking for a law firm job. So the thing is you, one of the things, the biggest mistakes that people make in their job searches is they only look at, for example, they only look at openings or they only look at a few firms. And so many times what you're searching for is you have to find some sort of market inefficiency.
So even though most firms may eliminate you the most prestigious firms will eliminate you for that. That's not to say you can't get into a three firm or a four-firm instead of a five firm or even a two firm where you can do some company work and you just have to make sure that what you're doing is your you're aiming at the right place.
The other thing is you need to apply to lots of places, but the biggest mistake people make is [00:01:00] like they many times will apply to firms and they'll think, oh, I didn't get an interview or an offer. And I applied to 25 or 50 or a hundred firms and therefore I need to give up you should be looking at all sorts of markets, all sorts of cities and get a job in the best firm you possibly can.
And that's what I would recommend. If you went straight into government, I don't know what kind of government you went into. If you went into federal government or you went into state government or what you did. But the biggest thing is when you go into a firm, you just need to listen very carefully and you take feedback and be the best you can, and be very enthusiastic and have very good reasons for wanting to work there.
But to know if your work's good enough and it will prepare your career, not nothing's gonna interpret your career if you're enthusiastic. So people will reward enthusiasm and the willingness to learn what they don't reward is people that aren't. If you have issues with that, then that could help you.
