So people take time off from work all the time. It's very common, especially for people having kids or traveling, but kids are big. Medical concerns are also a big one.
The point of taking years off from medical concerns is that it's very common. Many people will take time off to have children and raise them for those reasons. There are a lot of excellent firms that will allow people to take even years off to raise children and come back. Davis Polk is one of them.
Someone took years off there and came back; very good firm. But the point is that you can always address the resume gaps, and law firms will either accept it or not, but people can get jobs if you've taken time off due to medical concerns. You can talk about it. You can say the reasons in an interview; it makes you likable.
That makes people feel good that they're helping someone who may have had past problems or can turn the firm off and think that they will continually have problems.
