Q&A clip with Harrison discussing the potential of e-discovery as a lucrative practice area in law.
E-discovery provides numerous job openings, even for senior people with a decade of experience.
The demand for e-discovery may increase during a bad economy or litigation surge, but AI and machine learning may change how the work is done in the future.
Despite potential changes, e-discovery remains a good practice area with high salaries and entrepreneurial opportunities.

So I think e-discovery is a great practice area. I think that people can do very well in that. What I like about e-discovery is there's been a lot of additional work that's come about in law firms and even remote as well. So I think that's a good practice area; I've seen a lot of openings for it.
It's different from what I do, which is always involved, but there are always a lot of openings, even for senior people with ten-plus years of experience. I think litigation increases during a bad economy, so these particular types of jobs will also increase.
For those of you that need to become more familiar with these jobs, they actually can pay very well, and it's just a lot of work. My concern with the need for discovery in the future will be what is like AI and machine learning, that sort of thing. So I think that will affect how this work will be done in the future.
It will hurt some of the potentials of people's skills, but you could undoubtedly upgrade your skills and learn more about them. So I'm saying that different types of technology will make this work much more efficient. When that happens, like word processing departments and other things, law firms aren't the same as they used to be. I think that will affect it.
This is a good practice area, and I'm seeing a lot of openings for it and senior openings. I see law firms taking it very seriously, with very high salaries. So I think it's a good practice area. I also like that it's a job that people can do well.
If you make a discovery, I think there are a lot of opportunities to start your own business or to work for newer companies.
