You can have all the work-life balance you want, and it may be more beneficial in the long run to have a work-life balance. If you work remotely, you're not going to be seen.
People who may partner most times in large firms are in the main office and working directly with decision-makers. In firms that have multiple offices, it is much more difficult.
If you're not in the office, you don't have the relationships; you don't get the knowledge. You have to be around others and be seen to make partners.
I think that the people who work remotely can do very well, and you can indeed, but you have to be able to get out there and do business.
If you're working remotely, you have to make an excellent impression. If you can form relationships with it, that's great.
If other people are in the office and working there, that will be much more helpful to you. It could work remotely, but I think it could be helpful.
