But regardless, I knew this was the best career option at the time. If I wanted to succeed, I needed to embrace it wholeheartedly.

Studying success philosophies, I learned I needed a goal related to practicing law. Otherwise, I'd be working for free, staying in a flea-bag hotel, not enjoying myself. My father had warned me about the health hazards of asphalt work, which motivated me to pursue law more fervently.

One day, buying asphalt sealer, I joked with the owner's son about cancer risks. His serious response shocked me. That moment affirmed my decision to pursue law. To become enthusiastic, I immersed myself in legal literature, studying successful attorneys' journeys.

Books became my primary source of knowledge. They revealed the paths to success, helping me envision my own future. I devoured insights into law firms, attorneys' practices, and the mindset required for success.

While working at the Justice Department, I observed the lack of enthusiasm among colleagues. Determined to avoid that fate, I sought advice from attorneys in New York City, where I aspired to work. By immersing myself in their world, I cultivated excitement for a legal career in the city.

Preparing for interviews, I learned about the culture and expectations of New York law firms. This preparation paid off during interviews, where I confidently showcased my understanding of the profession.

Contrastingly, interviews in unfamiliar cities highlighted my lack of preparation and commitment. Failing to demonstrate a genuine interest, I missed opportunities. Lesson learned: to succeed, one must embody passion and dedication.

Successful attorneys set clear goals and remain committed to them. Conversely, aimless career paths lead to mediocrity and missed opportunities. Craft a statement of purpose outlining your aspirations and commit to them unwaveringly. This clarity of purpose will propel you towards success in the legal profession.

I am the best privacy attorney in the world. Whatever you set your goal as, that's your chief purpose. Write it down. It has to guide everything you do in your legal career and can be redone from time to time, but you need to do it.

I'm going to give you some resources. If you haven't done so, you need to read 'Think and Grow Rich.' It's a very good book, credited by many successful people. It changed my life when I read it in college, helping me get into law school and achieve my goals. Many successful individuals credit this book with their success.

Now, this book teaches the same principles you'll find in other resources about manifesting goals. It can truly change your career and life. Another interesting system I learned about is called the 369 journal. You write down your goal 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the afternoon, and 9 times at night. Some attribute this system to Nikola Tesla, believing it aligns with universal forces.

Anthony Robbins also emphasizes the power of repetition in achieving goals. The message is clear: consistent focus and action lead to success. The Secret is another example of this mindset. The central idea is that anything the mind can conceive and believe can be achieved.

Napoleon Hill, the author of 'Think and Grow Rich,' found that 95% of successful people had a chief aim, a well-defined purpose guiding their actions. Having clear goals and plans correlates with success. It's evident in the achievements of individuals like Henry Ford, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk.

Your goal might be to be the most famous class action attorney in the United States. Write it down, and your subconscious will make it happen, like it did to me. But very few attorneys have the same aim, even after decades of practice.

You need a purpose and desire, not necessarily about money. If your goal is to be the most famous class action attorney, it's meaningful. If that's your aim, like a guy I spoke to, driving to Palm Springs to be the best attorney in his practice area, you'll do what it takes.

People have these aims, like Tony Robbins, who wrote down his goals and became world-famous. If you want to be the most sought-out attorney, write it down. Specify the time frame and plan of action. Most want to be class action attorneys but don't know how.

I talked to a retired partner who wanted to start his firm but lacked focus. You need a chief aim document, as in "Think and Grow Rich." It works. You have to repeat your goal daily. Like me, from a law firm job to owning a multimillion-dollar company.

Set your goal, visualize, and take actions aligned with it. Successful people like Mary Lou Retton visualize success repeatedly. Read your goal thrice daily, visualize, and act towards it. It changed my life.

Employers seek committed, focused individuals. Most lack commitment, thinking about the negatives. Goals are crucial. They lead to success unimaginable otherwise. It changed my career path from law to owning a successful firm.

This is the missing ingredient in your career, not your resume or interviewing skills. It can change your life. Ask questions about your career, motivation, or mission statements. Your questions are anonymous, so don't hesitate. I'll stay until I've answered all.

QUESTIONS

Alright, let's dive into the questions. It's always good to ask anything you're unsure about. Today, there's an influx of curious yet somewhat hostile inquiries. That's fine. I'll address them along with others. In my recent job search, I struggled to gather relevant information about potential employers. How can I research a company's culture and values before the interview?

What questions should I ask during the interview to learn more about the job? Some of what I discussed today pertains to selling yourself to the employer beforehand. Often, candidates talk themselves out of opportunities due to hearsay or online reviews. It's crucial to approach each interview with an open mind.

Regarding why a law firm would use our services, there are numerous reasons. While firms can conduct screenings independently, they rely on us to find the best fit for their openings. With over 600,000 attorneys in our database, we can swiftly connect firms with suitable candidates, especially in niche markets.

I recall an instance where a former attorney doubted the efficacy of becoming a recruiter. Despite her reservations, others in the field were thriving. First, they seek individuals capable of executing the job, regardless of the practice area. Can the candidate perform the required tasks competently? Second, law firms seek individuals who can be effectively managed. What does management entail? It involves following instructions, respecting authority, and generally being responsive to guidance.

Even prominent figures, like President Biden, are managed in some capacity. Partners in law firms, associates—all must demonstrate the ability to be managed. Failure to adhere to management expectations can lead to dismissal.

For senior attorneys, being manageable is even more critical. They must be open to instruction and exhibit respect towards their superiors. Partners in law firms often favor young associates who comply with directives and make them feel valued. Failure to cultivate this sense of respect and cooperation can result in termination.

Individuals who exhibit behaviors such as gossiping, arrogance, or disdain towards colleagues may find themselves at odds with firm culture. Creating a conducive environment for management is essential. While law firms aren't perfect, finding the right fit is crucial.

Additionally, candidates must exhibit enthusiasm for the job. During interviews, displaying genuine interest and eagerness resonates positively with employers. Demonstrating a long-term commitment to the role is equally vital.

Employers seek individuals who aren't merely seeking a short-term opportunity but are dedicated to contributing over the long haul. Finally, likability plays a significant role in hiring decisions. Employers are more inclined to hire candidates they find personable and compatible with the team.

The abundance of opportunities in the legal field means there's a place for everyone, regardless of age or experience level. The key is to identify and pursue opportunities proactively.

Regarding career goals, it's crucial to set objectives that align with personal passions and aspirations. Goals should inspire and motivate, not overwhelm or detract from overall happiness. Whether in the legal profession or beyond, individuals must pursue paths that resonate with their interests and values. Adjusting career objectives to find better satisfaction and balance is a prudent step if current goals are causing distress. Ultimately, success lies in pursuing endeavors that bring fulfillment and align with personal values and aspirations.

Okay, there's a couple of important points in Think and Grow Rich, akin to The Secret. This book is interesting because it's crucial if you truly want to achieve your goals. Take this journal for example, it's not the only way, but many successful people swear by it. I recall chatting with guys from Harvard who believed in their success.

The key is consistency. You're not just supposed to read your chief aim from time to time, but every day, morning and night, and visualize your future self. There's also a self-confidence formula to follow, devoting time daily to building confidence.

These are proven formulas, though I'm not sure why they work. But they do, as long as you're committed. For instance, the 3-6-9 method suggests writing your goal multiple times a day to reinforce it in your mind.

Your goal should align with your passion. You don't have to be an attorney; any ambition is valid. I knew someone whose goal was to own a winery, and he achieved it. It's about figuring out how to make your dreams a reality.

Regarding having multiple goals, it's best to focus on one at a time. Concentrating on one goal aligns your resources and energy, increasing your chances of success. You can have goals in different areas of life, but one should dominate your focus.

Now, about changing practice areas without experience, it's possible. You don't necessarily need to volunteer; you can find opportunities in various law firms. Reach out and express your interest, and you might be surprised at the positive response.

It's essential to pursue what truly fulfills you. Whether it's corporate law or trust law, there are opportunities out there. Don't hesitate to go after what you want, as there are plenty of firms willing to give you a chance. Stay committed, and success will follow.
